It was a question of trust really, Carter knew her skill was there. All she ever had to do was watch something once and could replicate it perfectly, so that wasn't the issue.
It all came down to trusting another human being with a blade perfectly capable of slicing through skin and tissue and cartilage all the way to the major arteries. That was the trust factor, and maybe a little bit of a way for him to see how sometimes Gene had gotten her worked up if he teased her by running a claw down her arm or across her back.
Not that Gene ever had any designs on her, he just had a really good sense of humor and was amused by that freak trait of hers to get turned on by danger. It was as if her life could have gone either way on the path of hero or villain, but her father nudged her into the hands of people who would keep her on the straight and narrow.

What she needs to do, coincidentally, feels really nice. He lets out a gentle hum of contentment as she rubs down his face and neck.
"This might be something we need to do more often."
His voice is a little muffled thanks to the towel, but you can hear the smile in it easy enough.
